Dow is seeking a Principal Project Engineer to join our team in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta!
As an engineering lead, you will guide the execution of capital and expense projects through all phases, including Front-End Loading, Detailed Design, Construction, and Start-up. Youll either lead a capital projects engineering efforts or oversee the MES Project Lead role. Your focus will be on managing intermediate or smaller large projects, typically valued from $300K to $5MM. This position requires advanced knowledge in your discipline and provides room to expand your capabilities.
Responsibilities- Oversee project execution and provide guidance to the team on applying the Global Project Methodology (GPM).
- Take responsibility for planning and organizing tasks during design and construction.
- Create staffing plans in alignment with project needs.
- Manage the coordination of all design engineering, procurement, and construction activities.
- Lead the planning and execution phases, including the development of contracting strategies.
- Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Track the project schedule and update cost estimates while monitoring overall progress.
- Ensure any scope changes are addressed and that the project meets its goals for cost, time, and quality.
- Deliver the as-built and operations/maintenance documentation to the facility.
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
- Must be registered with APEGA (EIT/P. Eng) or be willing and able to obtain registration within a year of hire.
- At least 5 years of experience in engineering, project management, or related fields.
- Able to work safely in a plant environment, perform physical tasks, work at heights, and use PPE, including harnesses with a maximum weight capacity of 300lbs (accommodations for up to 500lbs may be available). Must be open to training on equipment use.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada is required; visa sponsorship and permanent residency support are not available.
- Project Management Ensure the project scope is clearly defined, monitor milestone deliverables, and manage risks throughout the project, especially during construction.
- Team Management Lead multidisciplinary teams by applying problem-solving strategies and resolving conflicts as they arise.
- Planning and Work Organization Organize tasks and prioritize work to align with project goals and timelines.
- Stakeholder Management Identify stakeholders, assess their impact, develop a communication plan, and ensure ongoing engagement.
- Communication Facilitate communication among project, construction, and operations teams to foster safe and effective execution.
