Position Summary
Join the Vallen team as an Industrial Hygienist. In this role you will provide occupational safety, health, and industrial hygiene expertise to ensure the safety and well‑being of all customer personnel. You will ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations and adherence to all Vallen and applicable customer safety policies.
EssentialJob Duties and Responsibilities
- Initiates and justifies new Safety and Industrial Hygiene projects and additional monitoring to improve refinery operations.
- Regarded by the corporation as an expert on all Safety and Industrial Hygiene regulations impacting the refinery.
- Develops programs to meet all new OSHA and NIOSH rules impacting refinery operations.
- Provides expert comments to trade organizations and the corporation regarding new OSHA and Industrial Hygiene regulations.
- Writes and revises all Safety and Industrial Hygiene policies affecting refinery operations and provides input to the corporation on new policies and procedures.
- Makes independent decisions on Safety and Industrial Hygiene programs.
- Provides Safety and Industrial Hygiene input to major projects, MOCs, and PHA’s.
- Sets the direction of the refinery Safety and Industrial Hygiene programs.
- Provides guidance and serves as a technical resource for entry‑level Safety and Industrial Hygiene specialists.
- Provides resource assistance to the Emergency Response Team.
- Provides leadership to turnaround safety activities.
- Initiates and justifies new Industrial Hygiene improvement projects.
- Must be able to work in a collaborative, on‑site work environment, which includes participation in unscheduled discussions and troubleshooting as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety or Industrial Hygiene or related field preferred.
- ASP, CSP, or CIH certification preferred.
- 5+ years of experience providing Safety/Industrial Hygiene expertise within the Industrial Market.
- Ability to read and interpret company policies, regulatory guidelines, and other work‑related documentation.
- Ability to abide by confidentiality requirements when working with sensitive information, results, and communications.
- Skill in providing thorough, efficient, and effective customer service to individuals at all levels within the organization.
- Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal methods.
- Ability to accomplish work within required timelines, including short, long, and emergency time frames.
- Ability to cross‑train in other department duties to ensure efficient coverage of department responsibilities.
- Ability to work with others to accomplish challenging assignments.
- Ability to multi‑task and prioritize multiple assignments to ensure completion within stated time requirements.
- Basic skill using Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word and Excel).
- Loud noise (e.g., refinery operations and maintenance).
- Subject to moderate outside environmental conditions, including normal weather and external temperature changes.
- Moderate work: work involves sitting, standing, and/or moving from one location to another; typically includes exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently; may include ability to climb, balance, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl at differing elevations.
