JOB TITLE: Apprentice Electrician

REPORTS TO: Job Foreman;
Journeyman Electrician

SUPERVISES: None

SCOPE OF WORK: Work will consist of assisting journeyman electrician with the installation, alterations, additions and/or repairs of electrical systems, conductors and associated materials and equipment within the electrical construction industries and code.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current Driver’s License and own transportation to job sites and/or shop.
  • Current State of Nebraska Apprentice License.
  • High School Graduate, GED or equivalent. Associates Degree from a qualified Electrical Technology Program preferred.
  • Some experience in the field or on a construction site preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Performs all electrical tasks with general supervision, possesses Apprentice license through the State of Nebraska, has the ability to read blueprints, terminate cable, install and troubleshoot control wiring from drawing.
  • Assist journeymen electricians with installing and repairing electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Gather tools and supplies to be used at worksites.
  • Measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit.
  • Drill holes for wiring and pull/push wiring through an opening.
  • Trace out short circuits on wiring.
  • Lift, position, and fasten objects such as wiring, conduit, and motors.
  • Perform minor repairs such as replacing fuses, light sockets, bulbs, and switches.
  • Maintain tools and equipment and keep supplies and parts in order.
  • Disassemble defective electrical equipment, replace defective or worn parts, and reassemble equipment.
  • Clean work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
  • Perform other routine duties required to install electrical systems or as directed by management.
  • SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Positively identify colors of wires.
  • Comprehend reading and drawing prints and schematics.
  • Bend conduit by hand with hand benders.
  • Ability to use all power tools, saws, threaders, wire tuggers, hydraulic benders, knockout punches.
  • Capable of digging trenches, either by use of hand tools or power equipment.
  • Operate equipment, trenchers, backhoe, lifts, etc. in a safe manner.
  • Practice and comprehend safe work procedures per Company policy.
  • Operate two-handed tools/equipment, cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, jack hammers.
  • Operate company trucks with manual and automatic transmission.
  • Read and interpret maps, instructional manuals, specifications, work site directions, blueprints and written instructions.
  • Operate and work from mechanical personnel lifts.
  • Work on energized circuits and equipment with company management approval as outlined in Safety Policy.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach overhead.
  • Lift 50 pounds.
  • Constant movement of your feet.
  • Climbing all types of ladders.
  • Completing overhead work for full-day assignments.
  • Possess good vision (normal or corrected).
  • WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Job requires working in all-weather elements, depending on job location and time of year (heat, cold, rain, snow/ice).
  • Job requires employees to have personal tools with them at all times. Waist tool belt as worn weighs approximately 30 lbs.
  • Work from all types of ladders (step ladders up to 14’, “A” frame ladders and all sizes of extension ladders).
  • Employee’s personal weight and personal tools cannot exceed weight limit of ladder.
  • Perform work at various heights from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, bucket truck lift, catwalk or other areas.
  • Work in restricted areas (switch gear room, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics).
  • Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses at all times and respirator when required).
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers.
  • Able to work 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week as needed, overtime as required. Weekends and evenings, as necessary.
