Overview

Tulane University School of Medicine’s John W. Deming Department of Medicine is seeking a Lab-Based Researcher in Cancer Biology to join the faculty. This full-time position within the Section of Hematology & Medical Oncology. The successful candidate will contribute to our efforts to expand the oncology research program, ensuring excellence in research, translation and education.

Responsibilities
  • Research:
    Develop and lead a research laboratory in pursuit of investigator-initiated and collaborative research projects that move the field of cancer research forward to the benefit of human health. Publish discoveries in leading peer-reviewed publications in the field. Collaborate with laboratory, clinical and population science researchers to advance translational research.
  • Education & Mentorship:
    Train and mentor postdoctoral fellows and graduate students in cancer research methodology and responsible conduct of research. Stimulate fellows and students to participate in mentored research projects and other scholarly activities. Teach a minimum of one graduate-level course per year.
Institutional Collaboration

Engage with Tulane Cancer Center leadership and the broader university community. Participate in the missions of the Section of Hematology & Medical Oncology, primarily research, teaching, and service. Engage in service responsibilities, including monthly attendance at faculty meetings and participation in University, School of Medicine, Departmental, or Section committee work.

Qualifications

Required:

  • PhD in a related scientific field
  • A record of peer-reviewed publications in cancer

Preferred:

  • Experience leading a research laboratory
  • Experience in translating basic research into clinical trials
  • A record of extramural grant funding
  • Commitment to research excellence and education

  • Pursue research projects that contribute to the understanding and management of cancer with the goal of publishing these findings.
