Summary

The Assistant Director of Nursing and Clinical Educator (ADON/CE) blends operational nursing leadership with clinical education and professional development responsibilities. They will assist in providing leadership and direction to the nursing department to ensure quality patient care and services. This position supports nursing operations while also ensuring staff are appropriately staffed, well‑prepared, competent, and supported through structured education, onboarding, and ongoing training.

The ADON/CE will work closely with the Director of Nursing and other health care professionals to provide the highest level of care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and support to hospital staff
  • Support the DON in the oversight of nursing operations for hospital, ED, and treatment room services
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating policies, procedures, and work flows.
  • Ensure safe staffing, appropriate skill mix, and effective patient flow across departments
  • Treatment room lead, responsible for process improvements in this department
  • Assist with assessing patient care needs, developing plans, and monitoring progress.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and requirements.
  • Assist in budget development and management.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including patient safety, infection prevention, and performance metrics.
  • Plan, develop, and implement orientation and onboarding programs for new nursing staff.
  • Coordinate and track annual competencies, skills validations, and mandatory education.
  • Collaborate with DON and ED / Trauma coordinator to identify learning gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Work weekends and holidays on the floor as needed.
  • Assist in covering resource call as needed.
  • Assist in time-card management
  • Split time between administrative/office responsibilities and scheduled clinical shifts on the floor to maintain hands‑on leadership and real‑time operational awareness.
  • Practice the proper fire, safety, and disaster procedures as set forth by SMC.
  • Participate in all quality, safety, security, and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department.
  • Uphold confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times and report violations to the Privacy Officer.
  • Understand and comply with the requirements of the Saunders Medical Center’s Compliance Program, including, but not limited to the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Policy, all Saunders Medical Center‑wide policies for compliance, and compliance plans affecting specific duties and responsibilities.
  • Participate in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by Saunders Medical Center policy and as requested by the Director of Nursing.

  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.

This position supervises hospital/emergency room nursing staff.

Education And/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or working towards
  • Computer skills proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and critical thinking skills
  • Strong planning and problem‑solving skills
  • Prior experience in staff education, precepting, or clinical instruction preferred

  • Registered Nurse in the State of Nebraska

Language Skills
