Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long‑term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. Demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise. Utilizes age‑and‑population‑specific standards related to the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident as per care plan.

Performs testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident’s status and provides the care needed. Recognizes problems, recommends solutions, and responds effectively to assist in an emergent situation.

Ensures the health, comfort, and safety of residents. Contributes to resident assessment, administers medications or treatments as ordered, and provides technical support to healthcare professionals as needed. Documents resident interactions and outcomes related to resident care, medication, behavior, activity, and dietary. Builds effective working relationships with residents, health‑care providers, and the public. Communicates clearly and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information. Counsels residents, family members, and/or resident advocate, under the direction of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider or physician, on prevention and treatment plans.

Applies resident education principles to develop a self‑care program. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care and support for residents.
  • Administer medications and treatments per care plan.
  • Document resident interactions and care outcomes.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary care team.
  • Communicate with residents, families, and staff.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as an LPN.
  • Associate degree in practical nursing preferred.
  • Completed a pre‑licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience or have at least 400 hours of experience as an LPN at another facility.
  • Currently holds an unencumbered LPN license with the state nursing board and/or multistate licensure privileges.
  • Obtains and maintains required departmental competencies and certifications; completes required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training.
  • If IV therapy/management is required: graduation from a Board‑approved AASPN program with IV therapy as part of curriculum or completion of a North Dakota Board‑approved IV Therapy course.
