This is an individual contributor role within the Global Utility division responsible for interpreting customer order information and processing low- to moderately complex orders into production and customer submittal drawings. Working under the supervision of the Drafting Manager or Supervisor, the position supports manufacturing and cross-functional teams by preparing accurate drawings, parts information, and related documentation in accordance with company standards, quality objectives, and lead‑time requirements.

The role involves reviewing customer specifications, identifying and reporting missing or conflicting information, and occasionally communicating with customers to resolve specification questions. The incumbent collaborates closely with multiple departments, manages assigned backlog and productivity expectations, and contributes to continuous improvement efforts related to drafting procedures, systems, and standard designs. All work is reviewed by senior drafting personnel.

• Review and interpret customer contract drawings, specifications, and order instructions
• Process customer orders into accurate production and customer submittal drawings
• Investigate and analyze design issues and determine required changes or corrections
• Prepare sketches, drawings, and supporting documentation for manufacturing and internal teams
• Interpret specifications and standards to ensure customer requirements are met
• Requisition parts and prepare material lists and quantities for purchasing support
• Communicate with engineering, production, sales, customer service, suppliers, and customers to resolve design and specification issues
• Support backlog management by updating schedules, maintaining productivity, and meeting delivery commitments
• Maintain accurate records, files, and documentation of customer requirements
• Assist team members with shop drawings and project‑based drafting support
• Identify and recommend improvements to drafting procedures, systems, and standard designs
• Comply with company safety, attendance, and quality policies

• High School diploma and 1+ years of related work or educational experience
• Technical skills in computer‑aided drafting and basic mathematical knowledge (algebra, geometry, trigonometry)
• Experience with 3D modeling techniques
• Proficiency with PC applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings, design constraints, and product requirements
• Strong problem‑solving skills with attention to detail and numerical accuracy
• Ability to identify and report inconsistent, conflicting, or missing customer information
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

• Associate’s Degree in Drafting
• Strong working knowledge of 3D CAD software
• Experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, PDF tools, and drafting equipment
• Basic knowledge of Valmont products and manufacturing capabilities
