Job Description

This is a seasonal position, 28 hours per week, expected to run May to Labor Day. The Nebraska State Historical Society and the Neligh Mill are seeking a friendly and enthusiastic seasonal tour guide. The guide will share information with visitors and give tours, answer questions about the mill and its historical significance.

Job Duties
  • Greet all site visitors in person or by phone and provide information on exhibits and events.
  • Walk to sites and outdoors as needed.
  • Provide tours to visiting groups and answer tourist inquiries, sharing historical information and local tourism.
  • Assist with light housekeeping functions, maintenance and/or custodial needs inside the Mill, in the office, and around the grounds. This includes mowing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Experience in public contact OR coursework/training or experience in history, art history, recreation, event planning, or areas related to Nebraska history, geography, or culture.

Other: Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of Nebraska history or willingness to learn.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally, give tours, and perform basic housekeeping and groundskeeping.
