Job Description

Are you excited by the opportunity to help establish a brand-new facility? The Nebraska Racing & Gaming Commission is seeking a self-motivated investigator to join the enforcement division in Ogallala. This role conducts background checks on licensees and carries out investigations and surveillance at the Lake Mac Casino Resort and racetrack. This is a vital position that promotes integrity, fairness, and excellence within the state's racing and gaming industries.

Examples of Work
  • Conducts thorough investigations into alleged violations of racing and gaming regulations, including but not limited to cheating, fraud, money laundering, and other criminal activities.
  • Performs in depth background checks on all licensees under the authority of the Commission.
  • Gathers evidence through interviews, surveillance, and data analysis to support investigations and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Prepares incident reports and other investigative reports documenting findings, evidence, and recommended actions.
  • Prepares and delivers testimony presenting the facts surrounding any civil, regulatory, criminal, or departmental action.
  • Reviews and monitors sample testing procedures, test barns, and laboratory results to ensure required participation in the quality assurance program and compliance with the rules of racing.
  • Collaborates with licensing and compliance divisions as well as law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to facilitate the enforcement of applicable laws.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
:
Coursework/training in criminal justice, law enforcement, police science, criminology, or related field and experience conducting criminal investigations. Must currently hold or able to obtain Nebraska Law Enforcement Certification for continued employment.

Legal Requirements
:
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications required for admission into the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Academy in accordance with Title 79, Nebraska Administrative Code Chapter 8:
Training Academy Admission Qualifications and Procedures. In accordance with Title 79, Nebraska Administrative Code Chapter 17:
Law Enforcement Continuing Education Requirements, incumbents must complete required continuing education to maintain active law enforcement certification.

Preferred Qualifications
:
Preference will be given to candidates who live in the commutable area and have a minimum of three years’ investigative experience. Additionally, preferred candidates will have an active law enforcement certification in the State of Nebraska.

Other
:
Regular and reliable attendance is required. This position requires travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver’s license or another form of reliable transportation.
NRGC employees are prohibited from gambling or placing a wager in any establishment licensed by the Commission.

  • Demonstrated ability to administer investigative procedures, including conducting interviews, interrogations, and surveillance operations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply state statutes, rules, and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, with a high level of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work respectfully with a diverse group of stakeholders, including Commission employees, horsemen, gaming operators, and public officials.
  • Effective written or oral communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately document incidents in an articulate and unbiased manner.
  • Must be computer literate (able to independently use Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, internet, etc.)
  • Must be able to patrol indoor and outdoor facilities through shift, standing and walking for long periods of time.
