Job Summary
The certified nursing aide performs various patient care activities and related non-professional services in caring for the personal needs and comforts of patients. He/she must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate patient care. He/she is accountable to the policies and procedures of Providence Medical Center.
Essential Functions- Works under the direction of the RN and/or LPN but is held accountable to prioritize and carry out assigned duties and routine cares.
- Effective use of proper phone etiquette and takes thorough messages. Uses a calm tone of voice, maintains helpful and courteous attitude during conversation and concludes the call with a positive closure.
- Knows the patient's plan of care through attending report and verbal communication with members of the team.
- Greets others in a courteous and professional manner. Assists customers in finding their destination.
- Respects the privacy
Infants, families and others, and maintains the confidentiality of patient and business information. - Demonstrates knowledge of Federal & State standards and laws to maintain corporate compliance for both Providence Medical Center and the department (Medicareestens, Medicaid, EMTALA, HIPAA, JCAHO).
- Demonstrates knowledge of Patient/Resident Rights & Responsibility.
- Escorts newly admitted patients to their hospital rooms, provides necessary hospital clothing, and assist the patients in undressing and dressing.
- Stores patient clothing and golfer upon admission and returns the property to the patient upon discharge.
- Answers call lights for all patients regardless of assignment.
- Obtains vital signs, intake, output, and weight with accuracy.
- Completes and assists patients with skin, hair and nail care, a variety of baths, and mouth care including the cleaning of teeth and/or dentures.
- Repositions the patients per facility policy.
- Changes the bedding for pugs daily, every other day or as needed.
- Completes hourly rounding as delegated by the charge nurse and completes electronic charting in a timely manner.
- Assists with meal trays, nourishments and feeding of patients.
- Provides the patient fresh water at shift change or as needed.
- Provides safe transportation of patients by wheelchair, cart or ambulation.
- Collects sputum, urine and stool specimens. Is able to instruct the patient on proper technique.
- Records cares provided from admission to discharge.
- Collects and bags soiled linen and restocks linen as necessary.
- Is resourceful and calm in emergencies.
- Attends/participates in department meetings, in‑services, and/or seminars. Attends/participates in 100% mandatory meetings. Completion of Care Learning on time.
- Demonstrates knowledge of fire safe environment.
- Demonstrates knowledge of hazardous materials used in workplace and proper handling and storage.
- Demonstrates proper use of red bags.
- Demonstrates proper procedure of needle/sharp handling & disposal.
- Demonstrates knowledge of electrical safety.
- Demonstrates safe work habits, attitudes, and behaviors.
- Reports safety patient issues.
- Identifies and reports undesirable outcomes and/or near misses.
- Works collaboratively with co‑workers within the Nursing department and those in other departments.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
- Education:
- High school diploma or GED, preferred.
- Must possess an active Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate.
- Successful completion of a Nursing Aide Program required.
- Must be 16 years of age or 18 years of age with operation of mechanical lift equipment.
- Experience:
- Previous experience in hospital or nursing home preferred.
- Computer Skills, preferred:
- E‑mail.
- Microsoft Word.
- Microsoft Excel.
