Manufacturing Engineer – Valmont Industries, Inc.

Location: Valley, NE (onsite)

Essential Functions:

• Reports to Manufacturing Engineer Manager with no direct reports.
• Collaborates across all manufacturing levels (maintenance, operators, supervisors, managers, safety).
• Drives engineering solutions to resolve manufacturing problems such as safety hazards, machine breakdowns, capacity constraints, quality, material handling, and processes.
• Works independently or leads small teams.
• Assists in short- and long-term capital budget planning.
• Focus on operating costs, labor, material, and variable to identify cost reduction opportunities.
• Specifies new tooling, equipment, and methods or modifies existing ones to improve cost, safety, quality, and cycle time.
• Prepares written funding requests for upper management.
• Uses CAD for equipment, tooling, and layouts.
• Participates in special projects related to product development or extension; prepares cost estimates and collaborates with manufacturing, tool and die, and vendors.
• Supports Valmont Safety Mission Statement and Safety by Objective plan.

Other Responsibilities:

• Manage projects from conception to completion, ensuring performance, cost, and schedule objectives, and provide necessary documentation and justification.
• Act as team leader on most projects to foster employee involvement and shop floor engagement.

Required Qualifications:

• Preferred Bachelor’s with 5+ years relevant experience, or Associate’s Degree with 7+ years, or 9+ years total experience.
• Minimum 2 years of experience delivering solutions and collaborating across business levels.
• Proven problem‑solving in environments with welding, gas cutting, plasma cutting, press working, machining, and ERW tube manufacturing.
• Project management and team leadership experience.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced setting.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, and Access.
• Strong 3‑D CAD design skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 5% domestically.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Structural, or Civil Engineering.
• 10+ years’ experience in a manufacturing engineering environment.
• Thorough knowledge of fabrication and welding procedures, processes, and QA methods used at Valmont.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
