The primary role of the Elementary Literacy Coach is to support the implementation of the District’s Literacy Framework through the consistent and aligned use of the District’s literacy curriculum. The Coach collaborates with Campus Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction Directors, and Specialists to co‑facilitate planning, monitor alignment, implement the coaching cycle, and provide targeted professional development.
Basic Function & Responsibility- Co‑facilitate collaborative planning, including unit and lesson internalization and micro‑teaches with teacher teams.
- Monitor alignment of instruction and assessment to the written curriculum and student outcomes.
- Implement the district coaching cycle by observing classroom instruction, modeling lessons with teachers and students, and providing timely verbal and written feedback.
- Provide targeted professional development to teachers.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Texas Teacher Certification.
- Three years of classroom teaching experience.
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- ESL supplement or certification.
- Experience creating and presenting professional development at the district or campus level.
- Knowledge of science of reading and structured literacy.
- Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS), state assessments including STAAR and TELPAS, and College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) Standards.
- Knowledge of high‑quality instructional materials (HQIM), including Amplify Texas.
- Knowledge of curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation.
- Knowledge of effective instructional strategies including structured academic conversations, vocabulary instruction, higher‑order thinking questions, and collaborative learning structures.
- Knowledge of classroom management methodologies.
- Knowledge and understanding of the complexities of building collaborative structures in educational environments.
- Skill in using technology as a learning tool in all content areas.
- Skill in analyzing and reflecting on student data, including work samples, to improve instructional practices.
- Ability to engage others in collective inquiry and problem‑solving.
- Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders in groups of various sizes.
- Collaborate with Campus Administrator and specialists to ensure fidelity of the Bastrop Literacy Framework across assigned grades.
- Conduct weekly instructional walks and use designated forms to assess curriculum implementation and instructional best practices.
- Identify teachers needing instructional guidance and implement coaching cycles: model and co‑teach lessons, observe instruction, provide timely feedback, and set student‑centered goals.
- Support written curriculum development, including vertical alignment.
- Facilitate collaborative planning meetings, internalize units and lessons, and analyze curriculum‑based and district assessments.
- Help principal and teachers disaggregate and analyze student achievement data to reflect on growth and adjust instruction.
- Assist in distinguishing students in need of literacy support, determining grouping, and scheduling interventions.
- Build and maintain relationships with adults to promote instructional change and student achievement.
- Communicate effectively with campus and district leadership and use social media to expand the professional learning community.
- Compile and maintain records of instructional materials and coordinate departmental activities with other District offices.
- Analyze critical needs in assigned areas and work collaboratively to improve programs.
- Interface with governmental agencies, business, and civic organizations to promote district initiatives.
- Comply with federal and state law policies, support assessment programs, and perform other duties as assigned.
