At Little Village, English Teachers play a vital role in supporting young children’s growth and learning through an inquiry-based approach. This means that learning is co-constructed with children, grounded in their interests, questions, and experiences. Teachers observe and listen closely to children, then design language-rich environments and experiences that provoke thinking, support emergent literacy, and foster confident communication. The teacher’s role is not to deliver a fixed curriculum, but to facilitate and extend learning through thoughtful interactions and intentional planning that evolves with the children’s ideas.

As an English Teacher, you will collaborate closely with your co-teachers to develop integrated, interdisciplinary learning experiences that reflect the children’s inquiries and the school’s values. You will participate in daily reflections, pedagogical discussions, and curriculum planning sessions to ensure alignment with Little Village’s philosophy. A strong emphasis is placed on respectful relationships, observation, and documentation as a way of making children’s thinking visible and planning next steps in learning.

In addition to leading the language and literacy component of classroom life, you will be responsible for fostering a warm and inclusive environment, maintaining strong communication with families, and contributing to a cohesive and reflective teaching team. You will also take part in school events, professional development, and ongoing curriculum review to ensure alignment with the Nurturing Early Learners (NEL) Framework and the Early Years Development Framework (EYDF) while staying true to the school’s child-centred and inquiry-driven ethos.
