Literacy & Reading Education - Part-Time Undergraduate Lecturer Pool

POSITION

The Department of Literacy & Reading Education at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Part‑Time Undergraduate Lecturer Pool. This pool provides part‑time lecturers for the department to draw on as needed. Qualified applicants will be contacted once positions become available. Appointments from the part‑time pool are temporary, often made just prior to the start of the academic term, and require availability on very short notice.

• Master’s in education with a specialization in reading or teaching reading from an accredited institution, or foreign equivalent.
• OR Bachelor’s in any academic discipline from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent AND twelve semester units of coursework in teaching reading AND a Master’s in English, literature, linguistics, applied linguistics, composition, comparative literature, TESL, psychology, or the equivalent.
• Teaching experience using multiple technologies and the ability to teach and develop courses for online instruction.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively work with students from intersecting historically marginalized social groups using innovative instructional approaches and methods.
• Committed to Just, Equitable, and Inclusive education.

• Demonstrated experience using anti‑racist teaching and social justice pedagogies.
• Community college teaching experience.

The need for part‑time faculty is greatest in Fall and Spring semesters. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid‑December; the Spring term runs from mid‑January through the end of May. On rare occasions part‑time faculty are needed during one of the Summer Session segments.

Regular performance evaluations of part‑time lecturers are made by the department in accord with the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and University Policy Statement 210.070. These evaluations determine which lecturers will be retained for future teaching assignments. In some instances, syllabi, assignments, and reading material are reviewed by the departmental personnel committee.

All part‑time faculty appointments are made as Lecturers, under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the California Faculty Association. Initial appointments are for one semester only. Classification range: $5,507–$6,677 per month. For a three‑unit assignment, typical starting compensation ranges from $6,608.40 to $7,465.20 per semester.

The department provides literacy leaders through programs such as the Master of Science in Education with a concentration in Literacy and Reading, California Reading and Literacy Added Authorization, and California Reading and Literacy Leadership Specialist Credential.
