Assistant Professor, Asian American Studies
The Department of Asian American Studies (ASAM) at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) invites applications for a tenure‑track position at the rank of Assistant or advanced Assistant Professor in Asian American Studies with an appointment to begin Fall 2026. The advanced rank includes up to two years of service credit counted toward probation.

PositionThe faculty member will teach and mentor students, develop and teach introductory and core courses in Asian American and ethnic studies, and develop courses in their area(s) of specialization. The primary responsibilities include scholarship or creative work commensurate with tenure requirements, participation in departmental life, advising students, serving on committees, and contributing to broader university and disciplinary communities.
Required Qualifications- Ph.D. in ethnic studies or related field, with an emphasis in Asian American or Pacific Islander/Native Pacific studies, by the time of appointment
- Ability to teach a wide range of Asian American studies and ethnic studies courses
- Demonstrated commitment to and excellence in undergraduate teaching
- Strong record of scholarly or creative accomplishments appropriate to the level of appointment
- Demonstrated commitment to department, university, professional, and community service
- Experience working collaboratively with colleagues
- Ability to balance excellent teaching, scholarship/creative activity, and service
- Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with students from intersecting marginalized social groups
- Emphasis in history; cultural studies (literature, digital/media studies, music); colonialism, empire, and war; queer of color theories; women of color feminist theories; diaspora; and/or community and social movements
- Interdisciplinary, intersectional and/or comparative approaches
- Evidence of effective use of a variety of instructional methods and learning modalities
- Evidence of successful scholarly/creative works and publications
- Evidence of engagement with student co‑curricular activities and Asian American or Pacific Islander/Native Pacific communities

Benefits and CompensationAnnual salary range is $6,221–$13,224 monthly (12 monthly payments). Anticipated hiring range is $7,465–$7,608 per month. Health, vision, dental, and retirement benefits are available. Additional research grants and reduced teaching loads may be offered.
