We are seeking enthusiastic and creative Ceramic Assistant to support the ceramics program and contribute to the development of students' technical and artistic skills in ceramics. The Ceramic Technicians will have the opportunity to work alongside more experienced instructors while developing their own practice as a ceramic artist.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESAssisting daily tasks in the ceramic studio (including teaching and technician works: glaze mixing, usage of the kiln, etc.);
Assist full-time staff with kiln loading and unloading, and firing of ceramic pieces;
Involved in the preparation of exhibition and event;
Prepare the studio before and after workshops including set-up and cleaning;
Produce AIA ceramic products for retail purposes;
Maintain the daily operations of the ceramic studio, including engaging with visitors, facilitating retail sales, and routine facilities maintenance;
Any other assigned ad-hoc duties.
QUALIFICATIONSBasic pottery skills (On throwing, turning, and glazing, etc) is an absolute advantage;
Knowledge of ceramics is a must (Throwing, Trimming, Glazing, Mixing Glaze, Pack Kiln);
Candidates with at least a diploma or degree in 3D art-related qualifications, especially pottery;
Passionate and interested in ceramics;
Proactive and eager to learn;
Good communication skills and enjoy interacting with customers;
A team player;
Willing to work weekends and public holidays;
Meticulous, good organizational and documentation skills;
KEY DELIVERABLESEngage in personal artistic practice, producing new work and maintaining an active portfolio, and sharing knowledge of evolving techniques with students.
Track and report on material inventory, assisting in the procurement and restocking of clay, glaze, and other necessary materials at least once per semester.
Ensure all student projects are stored properly for future reference or exhibitions.
