Position Overview
This role will be responsible for performing clerical duties on a professional level. The Administrative Assistant will ensure that all administrative tasks are efficiently and effectively implemented and assists the Human Resources team in supporting all functional areas of Human Resources.
SpecificJob Duties /Responsibilities
- Demonstrate the Winnebago Tribe's Wake & Burial Department's core mission, vision and values.
- Responds and acts as the point of contact for internal and public requests for assistance
- Responsible for incoming and outgoing departmental mail
- Organize and schedule meetings and appointments
- Answer/direct phone calls; greets and assists visitors
- Draft correspondence memos, letters, and other documents as needed
- Maintain the Wake & Burial filing system
- Assume responsibility for maintenance of office equipment including supplies
- Submit and reconcile expenses in the financial portal as needed
- Assist the Wake & Burial Director in planning, organizing and controlling activities of the department; join in developing department goals, objectives and systems
- Attend any direct training sessions
- Meet the performance goals established by the Wake & Burial director, the CEO and the Tribal Council
- Knowledge of budgetary practices and procedures
- Will work with Inventory/Insurance clerk on Beneficiary Claims for enrolled Winnebago Tribal members
- Will approve or disapprove of rental deposit returns, work directly with the Tribal Administration on building rentals

- High School diploma or equivalent required;
Associate degree required - Must have 3+ years’ experience as administrative assistant or clerical
- Superior communication and excellent customer service skills required
- Strong organizational skills required
- Excellent time management with the ability to prioritize tasks required
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
- Must be enthusiastic and dedicated to the challenges of helping other people
- Must maintain strict confidentiality at all times due to major access to sensitive information
- Must possess the ability to function collaboratively as part of a fast-paced, customer service-oriented team
- Must be detail oriented and professional in communications, appearance, relationships, and responsiveness
- Must have the ability to effectively handle situations and people with tact, deference, courtesy, and maintain objectivity while recurrently employing moral and ethical judgments
- Must be a self-starter and maintain a positive attitude
- Regular/consistent attendance is required
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and maintain driver’s eligibility for insurance
Must attend all department meetings and other training functions as directed by the Wake & Burial Director
Physical RequirementsNormal to light office work which includes the ability to lift up to 10 lbs. Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, various office equipment, and vehicles. While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
Mental RequirementsReading, writing, calculating;
Above average social interaction skills
Works with minimal to no supervision
Language Requirements- Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
- Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.
