Overview
The Part-Time GED Examiner supports the delivery of Pearson Vue GED testing services at the Chadron State College campus. This role ensures secure, professional, and consistent administration of standardized examinations in accordance with vendor, state, and institutional requirements. The position operates on a part-time basis with a predictable schedule, typically established several months to a year in advance.
ResponsibilitiesCommunicating and coordinating with Chadron State College administrators, Pine Ridge Job Corps, Pearson Vue representatives, and other partners as directed.
Ensuring strict confidentiality of all testing information, candidate data, and examination materials.
Greeting and checking in candidates; verifying identification; and following all required test-security, admissions, and procedural protocols.
Proctoring and supervising test administrations in accordance with Pearson Vue and institutional guidelines.
Maintaining required Pearson Vue testing certifications and completing mandatory training.
Ensuring the security of the testing environment, equipment, and materials.
Maintaining a clean, orderly, and candidate-friendly testing space.
Preparing, updating, and safeguarding test records, reports, and administrative files.
Providing front-desk support, including answering phones, responding to inquiries, and delivering general testing information.
Participating in ongoing training, professional development, and testing-industry updates.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent, required. Some college coursework or training beyond high school, preferred.Experience:
- Ability to pass a criminal background check required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfort using computers, web-based applications, and testing software.
- Ability to follow detailed procedures and maintain a high degree of accuracy and integrity.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues and, when necessary, work with vendor technical support or campus IT personnel.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and complying with all testing-security requirements.
- One to two years of customer-service or front-office experience preferred.
- Experience working with the public in an enforcement, supervisory, or procedural-compliance capacity preferred.
Work is performed in a quiet, controlled testing environment with frequent face-to-face interactions.
Requires sitting for extended periods while monitoring testing rooms and using a computer.
Occasional lifting of files, testing materials, or office supplies (typically up to 20 lbs).
Requires attention to detail, adherence to exact procedures, and maintaining compliance with testing-security standards.
Work involves collaboration with college staff, community partners, and testing vendors.
Keyboarding – Entering text or data into a computer or other machine by means of a traditional keyboard.
Speaking – Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to clients or the public and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Near Visual Acuity – Clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less (i.e., working with small objects or reading small print), including use of computers.
Far Visual Acuity – Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more, including the ability to recognize features.
Peripheral Vision – Observing an area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point.
