About this job

PEN PICTURE I am a lady in my 70s living in central Neath.

I am looking to employ a Personal Assistant to join my team of support workers who are always with me in my home, to ensure that I am safe and promote my independence.

I have an acquired brain injury, which has left me with short-term memory loss and many other hidden disabilities.

My mobility is severely restricted due to age related issues and hospital stays due to illness and a stroke in the last year.

Due to this reduced mobility I require support with getting up and moving about, using manual aids such as a ceiling track hoist (1:1 support). I require reminding and prompting, and also support to access the community.

I am good fun and enjoy learning how to use my iPad, playing cards, doing arts and crafts, and going out for meals and attending social groups.

Responsibilities
  • Spend time with me in my home, building a relationship with me and my family.
  • Assistance with transfers and mobilising.
  • Assisting with the administration of medication and use of MAR charts.
  • Accompany the lady on her annual leave holidays and day trips as her health allows.
  • To monitor health conditions and reporting any changes.
  • PA's must be able to take direction and follow all care plans and risk assessments.
  • Completing paperwork and correspondence i.e. timesheets, online logs, fluid and meal intake records, expenses records, appointment diaries etc.
  • Support with domestic tasks, such as basic cooking and cleaning.
  • To monitor, prompt and assist with medication and personal care.
  • Assist in personal care (i.e. washing and showering) and any other reasonable duties.
Hours

Minimum of 20 hours per week. Additional hours are available to cover sick and holiday leave.

Hours / shifts to be discussed in interview, but are typically 8:45am to 3:30pm, 2:45pm to 10:15pm and 9:30pm to 10:15am the next morning.

Shifts will cover both days and nights, weekdays and weekends as the person requires 24/7 support.

Start and finish times can be varied depending on your personal circumstances.

Type of Person Required

The PA will need to be DBS checked and fully trained in Medication Administration and Manual Handling (including Ceiling Track Hoist 1:1 support). Is friendly, approachable and caring. Someone who is trustworthy and who can show initiative. Someone who will respect my confidentiality. Someone who will treat me with dignity and respect. Someone who has a good standard of spoken English, as the lady is very hard of hearing.

Someone who will be confident working in my home on a one-to-one basis and as part of a team. Car driver preferred. NVQ or QCF in Care desirable but not essential. Personal Assistant must be flexible to cover the team leave and sickness. This vacancy is being advertised on behalf of an individual employer.
