We are seeking an experienced and motivated senior management accountant to play a pivotal role in supporting the development of the Board's Financial Plan. This post provides high-level financial expertise, advice, and analysis—ensuring the financial impact of proposed service changes is robustly assessed, clearly communicated, and that financial risks are appropriately identified and managed. You will lead the Management Accounting Team to deliver high-quality financial planning, reporting, costing, and budget support across the organisation, contributing directly to the achievement of financial balance and the delivery of medium and long-term service priorities.
The post holder will also deputise for the Deputy Director of Finance when required.
- Lead and manage the Management Accounting Team, ensuring high-quality, timely outputs.
- Support the preparation, development, and implementation of the annual revenue financial plan, and provide accurate reporting against agreed targets.
- Provide expert financial and non-financial analysis to inform decision-making, performance management, and service planning.
- Support the development and review of budgets to enable delivery of medium- and long-term service priorities.
- Oversee the production of internal and external financial reports, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and NHS Scotland financial requirements.
- Ensure the provision of high-quality management accounting information for budget holders and key stakeholders.
- Provide accurate service costings and ensure these are reflected within all service agreements and contracts.
- Deliver high-quality financial information to support internal and external audit processes.
- Contribute to agreements and contracts with other NHS Scotland boards and external stakeholders.
- Deputise for the Deputy Director of Finance as required.
- A relevant degree or equivalent experience in a similar finance role, ideally within the NHS or wider public sector, or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and competencies.
- Proven ability to exercise initiative, identify issues, and propose effective solutions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently at all levels internally and externally.
- Ability to prioritise workload, work under pressure, and deliver to tight deadlines.
- Experience in managing and developing staff.
- Proficient excel and other IT skills, including working knowledge of financial reporting systems.
- Extensive understanding of costing principles and their application to business decisions, as well as statutory NHS requirements.
- Demonstrates professionalism, confidentiality, diplomacy, and discretion at all times.
