Overview
Preservation Painter at South Bay Sand Blasting and Tank Cleaning
, located in San Diego, CA. Shipyard-related subcontractor hiring a Painter for our Preservation Department.
Under general supervision, a Painter will perform routine and preventive maintenance painting duties, and a full range of specialized painting projects including painting large structures in severe environments; performs inspections, cleanups, storage, and disposal of paint products; and operates various tools and equipment. May be required to perform additional duties as deemed necessary by the Production Manager for the completion of the job in a safe and timely manner.
Must be able to travel.
- Prepare a variety of routine and preventive maintenance painting duties
- Prepare and mix paint, specifically standard epoxies and UHS coatings
- Prepare and paint a variety of surfaces including aluminum, ferrous metal, interior shop coat metal, uncoated metal, accessories, and other surfaces as specified; protect and prime surfaces as appropriate; apply finish coating to our standards
- Correct work as directed for any imperfections in the finish
- Clean up work areas, equipment, supplies and materials; apply standard safety practices and procedures
- Always follow manufacturers specifications
- Assist in training other workers as necessary
- Use proper PPE
- Effectively use heavy and light equipment, depending on the jobsite/assignment
- Implement and follow the company s safety, quality, and environmental policies; and OSHA requirements in the shipbuilding industry
- Ability to read labels, safety warnings, and guidelines
- Attentive to detail and safety-conscious
- Able to receive and follow instructions and communicate with co-workers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to operate various vehicles and equipment safely
- 3 years of experience preferred, especially in the particular industry
- SSPC C12 or C14 Certification
- High school diploma or GED, technical/vocational trade school, or apprenticeship
Work is conducted indoors and outdoors with exposure to prevailing weather conditions. Work may be indoors or aboard a vessel with fumes, chemicals, heat, noise, and dust. Safety equipment is required. The individual must be able to climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders. Work aboard vessels can be strenuous and sometimes hazardous. Dynamic, fast-paced outdoor setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard.
Must be able to stand and walk for long periods. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
All positions require a pre-employment medical test. This employer participates in E-Verify. Must be able to qualify for DBIDS security clearance. Ability to read technical English is a must. U.S. Citizenship is preferred (for some work locations it is required). Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
