SOUTH BAY SANDBLASTING & TANK CLEANING, INC. located in San Diego, CA shipyard related subcontractor hiring an Outside Machinist.
Job SummarySupport tank cleaning and flushing operations onboard Navy ships by performing mechanical disassembly, assembly, and adjustment of piping systems and related equipment. Duties include opening/closing systems, removing and reinstalling valves, fittings, and pumps, aligning equipment, performing leak checks, and assisting with line-ups for flushing operations. Work requires use of hand tools and measuring devices, following technical manuals and blueprints, and complying with all Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures.
Responsibilities- Disassemble, assemble, and adjust piping systems and related equipment on Navy ships.
- Open/close systems, remove and reinstall valves, fittings, and pumps, and align equipment.
- Perform leak checks and assist with line-ups for flushing operations.
- Utilize hand tools and measuring devices in accordance with technical manuals and blueprints.
- Follow Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures.
- 2+ years or more of experience.
- Knowledge of methods and standards of the machinist trade.
- Strong understanding and interpretation of blueprints, sketches, or other descriptions of parts to be fabricated.
- Train, instruct, and supervise the workforce to improve efficiency and output.
- Strong leadership and customer service skills.
- Shipyard/industrial skills preferred; familiar with Navy ships configuration.
- Knowledge of supervisory techniques, personnel policies, and procedures.
- Familiar with WAFTs and Tag Out process.
- Must be able to perform according to both commercial and military standards and specifications.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High school diploma
Work is conducted indoors and outdoors; frequently exposed to prevailing weather conditions. Work may be indoors or aboard vessels with fumes, chemicals, heat, noise, and dust depending on location. Safety equipment required; some will be provided. Must be able to climb inclined stairways and work aboard vessels in strenuous and sometimes hazardous environments. Dynamic, fast-paced outdoor setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard.
Must be able to stand and walk for long periods and be flexible to work varying schedules and hours. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
All positions require a pre-employment medical test. This employer participates in E-Verify. Must be able to qualify for DBIDS security clearance. Ability to read technical English is a must. U.S. Citizenship is preferred (for some work locations it is required). Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
