We seek a highly motivated cancer biologist to join our early drug discovery team in Natick, Massachusetts. The successful candidate will play a key role in target validation by utilizing genetic and pharmacological perturbations in mammalian cell culture to discover and confirm candidates for novel therapeutics and test mechanistic hypotheses in disease-relevant model systems. The successful candidate is expected to initiate, execute and independently lead novel drug discovery projects at all stage of drug development and provide translational biology support as projects moving into clinical development stage.
Responsibilities
- Lead novel drug discovery program
- Design, optimize and perform cellular assays to support drug discovery efforts
- Validate novel therapeutic targets using genetic and pharmacological approaches
- Perform experiments to drive target validation, in depth understanding of mechanism-of-action and biomarker identification
- Summarize and analyze data package; present findings to project team and leadership
- Manage projects at CROs and mentor junior members in the group
- Keep up to date with the latest advances in biotechnologies, oncology research and clinical development; contribute ideas to new drug discovery projects
- PhD in cancer biology, cell or molecular biology, genetics or a closely related area of study
- 5+ years of post-graduate work in oncology research, with an expertise in genetic perturbation (CRSIPR and RNAi)
- At least 2-3 years of direct management experience
- Experiences with a variety of molecular/cellular biology techniques, such as DNA and RNA manipulation, ELISA, Western blot, flow cytometry and immunofluorescence
- Experience with high-throughput platform is strongly preferred
- Deep and broad understanding of cancer biology, cancer genetics and targeted therapy
- A strong record of achievement, as evidenced by publications in high impact journals
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to provide timely and open feedback
- Ability to present experimental data to diverse audiences such as project teams and executive boards
- Strongly self-motivated, detail-oriented, ability to multi-task; proficient reasoning skills in experimental design, data analysis and interpretation
- Critical problem solving capabilities; a flexible team-oriented perspective and ability to work in a fast paced, highly collaboration environment
