Position: Teaching Assistant / Driver - Medway

ACCEPT Education Collaborative is a regional non‑profit educational organization located in Medway, Massachusetts. The position is for a paraprofessional/IA and transportation support staff assisting special education students in a middle/high school setting.

Qualifications
  • 1+ years of experience working with children and/or young adults; experience with individuals with special needs preferred.
  • Associate Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Safety Care certified or willing to obtain certification.
  • Team player, dependable, and able to follow directions independently when appropriate.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Calm under pressure; compassionate and patient.
  • Multitasking ability and maintain confidentiality.
  • Valid Massachusetts 7‑D license and active driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Must pass a drug screen, CORI, and other background checks.
  • Routes may vary as needed.

Desired qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
  • Experience working in special education.
  • 3+ years of general driving experience.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Work under the direction of the Special Education teacher and Fleet Manager.
  • Assist with classroom instruction and provide support and guidance to students under the classroom teacher’s direction.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with the lead teacher to implement a classroom system to track student progress and take necessary steps to ensure academic progress.
  • Help complete incident and restraint reports and communicate relevant data to the teacher or behavior specialist.
  • Assist students during non‑classroom time and arrange recreational activities.
  • Attend required meetings and training sessions.
  • Drive students to and from required destinations, maintaining a clean and safe vehicle environment.
  • Attend all scheduled trainings and safety meetings to maintain the 7‑D license.
Nonessential Functions
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Occasional travel and transfer between ACCEPT programs to fulfill TA responsibilities at any ACCEPT location.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about and may need to traverse occasionally throughout the school building. The employee may remain stationary for extended periods, reach with hands and arms, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and perform physical restraint of a student during behavioral escalation. The employee is expected to lift at least 50 lbs.

The employee must use hands to handle tools and operate computer and office equipment. The employee must communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff. The employee may need to move quickly or run across uneven surfaces. The work is in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise.
