The role involves market strategy development, collaboration with cross‑functional teams, and acting as the internal champion for biological sciences at Math Works.
Responsibilities- Deploy your knowledge of MATLAB and the biological sciences to grow the market & cultivate strategic research institutions, universities and groups within them
- Work with professors and researchers to understand their workflows and needs, identify gaps and fill those gaps that can be addressed by Math Works products.
- Through direct customer engagements, identify strategic projects/programs at key biological sciences research institutes and universities and secure deep technical engagements with Math Works technical experts to establish organizational adoption of MATLAB.
- Meet with senior and executive management at strategic research institutions and universities to create a common vision for adoption of MATLAB in support of their teaching and research mission.
- Build and nurture relationships with key decision makers at strategic institutions.
- Distill key lessons learned into a set of best practices and sales enablement tools for others, supporting increased MATLAB adoption and usage in biological sciences teaching and research worldwide.
- Identify and work with critical 3rd‑party partners providing complementary tools to complete the customer workflow.
- Actively monitor progress of contacts, opportunities, funnel, and usage at targeted institutions to achieve goals for broadening and deepening adoption and usage of MATLAB in research and teaching, in collaboration with Education Customer Success Engineers.
- Enlist the biological sciences community in championing MATLAB
- Cultivate and enlist key influencers in biological sciences in industry and academia to advocate for the benefits of MATLAB.
- Engage with funding agencies, consortiums, and others to help them understand the role of MATLAB in supporting their goals.
- Deliver presentations, papers, panels at conferences, serve as the biological sciences spokesperson by interacting with industry analysts, editors, and journalists, and drive marketing programs and supporting materials for web and other promotion tactics.
- Market segment strategy and business planning
- Develop market strategy to increase MATLAB adoption and usage in teaching and research and report progress on it to the internal strategic "board of advisors".
- Advocate on behalf of customers to influence the future direction of Math Works' products using deep knowledge of customer workflows and unmet customer needs.
- PhD degree in biological sciences or a relevant natural and applied science discipline.
- Strong knowledge of and firsthand experience with MATLAB for scientific computing applications, modeling and simulation, data analysis, algorithm and application development.
- Market development experience or experience supporting sales and engaging with customers as a sales engineer or applications engineer.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- 10+ years of experience in research or teaching activities in biological sciences segments such as microscopy, biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, genetics at leading research institutions or universities.
- Background in a bachelor's degree and 6 years of professional work experience, or a master's degree and 3 years of professional work experience, or a PhD, or equivalent experience.
- Experience as a professor or postdoc, developing proposals and securing research grants, or developing course curriculum.
- Product marketing experience with a global technical software company.
- Prior employment with a global software company involved in scientific computing, data analysis, and/or modeling and simulation tools.
Location & Travel:
This position will be based in Natick, MA. The candidate should expect to travel about 25% of the time, with an international component as part of the worldwide responsibility.
