CHICK TRUCK DRIVER
The chick driver is responsible for picking up chicks from the hatchery and delivering them to the farms each day. The driver performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections as well as forklift inspections. The driver loads the trailer with stacks of chicks on pallets. Each pallet could contain from 8 to 120 boxes of chicks, with a maximum of 9 pallets per trailer.
The driver safely delivers the chicks to a farm and helps unload them on site using the forklift. After unloading, the driver returns empty chick boxes to the hatchery for cleaning and unloads pallets to the sanitation area. The driver repeats these steps to haul approximately 2 or 3 loads a day.
EGG TRUCK DRIVER
• Pick up eggs from each grower farm twice a week and keep a consistent schedule for each farm
• Loading and unloading of eggs
• Trucks should be unloaded, washed, and disinfected by end of each day
Schedule and Work EnvironmentThe typical schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday starting around 6am until done hauling designated loads. Typically, a 10 to 12-hour workday. Works occasional Wednesdays for driver meetings and deep cleaning trailers. Work all holidays that fall on weekdays except for Christmas. The individual selected will drive a truck from the hatchery to and from various grower farms; you represent Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation whenever driving a company vehicle and must follow the rules of the road.
Responsibilitiesand Qualifications
- Must have excellent attendance habits.
- Load trucks at hatchery, deliver chicks to farms, return empty carriers to hatchery and wash chick carriers after return.
The nature of the position is very physical. - You must be able to drive large trucks in all types of weather and have the ability to chain wheels if needed.
- Must be able to lift/push 100+ lbs.
- Must have a valid CDL Class A license, a good driving record, a drug-free record and must pass a DOT physical.
- Vision correctable to 20/20.
- Must possess good decision-making ability.
- As trucks are heated for chick transport, some mechanical abilities in this area would be preferred if repairs to the vehicle were needed while in transit.
- May also be required to do other Hatchery related jobs.
- Good work ethics and able to work as a team with other drivers and Hatchery employees.
- Able to work in hot and dusty environments.
- Normal workdays Monday – Tuesday, Thursday – Friday; work any scheduled holidays. Sometimes we do work on Saturdays if needed.
- Start times vary with seasons, typical start times are 5:30 to 7:30 am and finish by 6:30 pm.
- Must be able to operate a manual CMV.
Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of driving and traffic rules.
- Appropriate skill to drive a truck safely.
- Ability to follow both written and verbal directions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others in a manner that maintains harmony with co-workers.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work under dusty adverse conditions.
- Valid Class A Driver’s license and acceptable driving record according to Company Policy.
- Valid Pilgrim’s Forklift license or ability to obtain license within 30 days.
