Job OverviewJoin our Feed Mill Maintenance team and play a vital role in delivering safe, high‑quality poultry products to customers. In this hands‑on position as a Feed Mill Maintenance Technician, you will ensure the continuous, safe operation of production machinery (pellet mills, conveyors, and mixers) by performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs. Key duties include welding, hydraulic/pneumatic system repair, electrical troubleshooting, and strict adherence to safety protocols (LOTO).
This role requires mechanical aptitude, physical stamina for heavy lifting/climbing, and often involves rotating shifts. You will operate and fix equipment, maintain a clean work area, and follow all safety and biosecurity guidelines. This is a fast‑paced environment where attention to detail and teamwork are key. - Preventative Maintenance:
Schedule and perform routine inspections, lubrication, and adjustments on machinery like bucket elevators, drag conveyors, boilers, and hammer mills. - Troubleshooting & Repair:
Diagnose mechanical and electrical failures, repairing or replacing parts promptly to minimize downtime. - Fabrication & Welding:
Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication tasks to repair structures and equipment. - Safety & Compliance:
Strictly follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, wear appropriate PPE, and maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area. - Record Keeping:
Maintain detailed, written reports of all maintenance work, repairs, and parts usage. - Operational Support:
Assist with, or fill in for, operator duties as needed. - Continuous Improvement:
Identify and suggest improvements to processes and equipment for better efficiency. - Facility Upkeep:
Perform general maintenance on the Feed Mill building and grounds. - Must become familiar with and adhere to all general Feed Mill safety policies within the first 6 months of employment.
- Must have a good work history and attendance record.
- Must have a good history of safe work practices.
- Must be able to work any shift, weekends, holidays, and be on call for plant emergencies as they arise.
- Must be able to work at heights of 40 to 60 feet.
- Must possess basic mechanical abilities.
- Must be able to learn the basic day to day functions Hatchery Maintenance within a 45 day trial period.
- Must have excellent communication skills both written and oral.
- Will perform all other duties as directed by Refrigeration Management.
- Must obey all USDA, HACCP, Hatchery and safety rules & regulations.
- Must have or purchase and maintain all tools required to work in this position.
- Must communicate to Hatchery management any situation or issues needing to be addressed on a daily basis.
- Technical Knowledge:
Proficiency in industrial mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and gearboxes. - Electrical Background:
Ability to troubleshoot 110v, 220v, and 480v systems, as well as VFD drives and control circuits. - Physical Stamina:
Capacity to lift up to 60–75 lbs and work at heights of up to 120 feet via ladders or man‑lifts. - Safety Compliance:
Strict adherence to safety protocols, including Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out (LOTO) and confined space entry procedures. - Education:
Typically requires a High School Diploma or GED; technical school training or 1–5 years of industrial maintenance experience is often preferred.
- Conditions:
Maintenance staff work in indoor and outdoor mill settings, often exposed to high levels of grain dust, noise, and extreme seasonal temperatures. - Availability:
Positions often require working varying shifts (nights/weekends) and being on‑call for emergency breakdowns. - Bio‑security:
Strict adherence to bio‑security protocols is mandatory; many employers prohibit ownership of or contact with personal feathered animals. - Flexible
