Position Summary

On a contract basis, this position is responsible for ensuring all customers are aware of their import shipments (except cargo arriving at the Ports of Los Angeles or Long Beach, California) and verifying all requirements are met prior to releasing the cargo. This includes monitoring manifests and releases received or sent by EDI and free-time validation and terminal reports. The IBVC clerk must abide by processes that comply with applicable U.S. Regulatory Agency/Government shipping regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate timely sending of terminal manifests and vessel arrival reports by EDI transmission.
  • Review and monitor bill logs to ensure all requirements are satisfied prior to cargo release (OBL received, freight paid, customs cleared).
  • Review terminal reports transmitted by EDI to ensure timely and accurate release of cargo.
  • Coordinate cargo release procedures at water ports to reduce demurrage costs.
  • Provide prescribed notifications to customers of U.S. Regulatory Agency/Government holds and compliance requirements, and actions required to progress inbound cargo as authorized and directed by management.
  • Provide prescribed notifications to customers of Customs Border Protection (CBP), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and other government agency requirements to facilitate customer compliance as authorized and directed by management.
  • As directed by management, issue Immediate Transportation bonds, Immediate Exportation bonds and Transportation and Exportation bonds (ITs, IE’s & T&E’s) to allow intermodal cargo to move to inland destinations without delay; enabling clearance with CBP at the inland destination.
  • Make amendments to Bills of Lading (BLs).
  • Setup exams / sign EINs.
  • Add rates to BLs and invoice customers.
  • Create liens and set shipments to GO (Go).
  • Provide demurrage quotes.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Flexibility to work any shift from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Internal candidates: minimum three years of transportation experience (including 6 months of direct customer interaction) in any three of the following areas:
    International Tariffs, Ocean Documentation, Equipment, Freight Cashier, Sales/Customer Service, Operations, Logistics, Cargo Delivery. Equivalent training in the Customer Service Center may be substituted for the above. Experience in the transportation industry is preferred. Experience in a team-based environment and knowledge of quality tools and techniques is preferred. Values:

Qualifications
  • Education:

    Preferred—Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Work Experience:

    1-3 years general experience; 2+ years of previous customer service experience preferred.
Compensation and Equal Opportunity

The expected salary for this position is $67,155.37 per year. In addition to base salary, this position may be eligible for comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, tuition repayment, and paid time off.
