General Job Description

The Senior Technician is a heavy equipment mechanic that specializes in the modernization and repair of cranes. This position may perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs and upgrades, and will solve complex problems when cranes malfunction. The role requires self-sufficiency, leadership abilities, effective communication, and professionalism to lead field technicians and act as liaison between management and customers. The technician operates in a safety-first environment.

This is a 24/7 service company that requires on-call availability and after-hours or weekend services as required.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Be on-call and provide after-hours services as required.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, inspect, and upgrade industrial hoists and cranes in the field at customer locations.
  • Train and mentor field technicians.
  • Perform OSHA-required hoist and crane inspections; generate inspection reports and repair orders. Communicate with the Service Manager and Branch Manager to schedule and complete work daily.
  • Consult with customers regarding repair and safety-related issues and discuss recommendations to improve services.
  • Maintain company-issued equipment, vehicle, and assets in safe working order. Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely. Notify supervisor of deficiencies.
  • Maintain supplies of forms and materials in the company vehicle.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment.

Required

  • Attend company-provided trainings and seminars as required.
  • Participate in HCSG 5 Marks program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

  • The work is labor-intensive; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs daily and up to 100 lbs on rare occasions.
  • Demonstrate 90% of time climbing, balancing, stooping/crouching, overhead reaching, bending, squatting, prolonged standing and sitting.
  • Occasional pushing, pulling, kneeling, crawling; good hand-eye coordination; heights up to 50+ feet.
  • Travel 20-50% and willingness to work varying shifts, on-call and overtime. Travel may be required at company discretion.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed inside or outside depending on customer requirements, with exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, heights, fumes, dust, and odors.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum Education:

    High School/GED
  • Minimum Experience:

    At least 5-7 years of crane repair experience, or 3-4 years of electrical/mechanical experience in lieu of crane repair & maintenance experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record; ability to pass pre-employment drug test and background checks (DISA) and submit to random/annual testing as required.
  • Basic computer skills to work with web-based crane inspection programs; ability to communicate well and work independently or in a team.
