Overview

This position is responsible for performing a variety of standard to complex and highly diversified technical tasks related to troubleshooting, installing, maintaining and repairing heating, cooling, and ventilation systems in accordance with safety standards, predictive maintenance systems, and processes. The position requires basic knowledge of various control systems. Employees at this level are expected to cover all duties as assigned Maintenance Technician I and Maintenance Technician II, as well as developing a trade of expertise for machine maintenance and production equipment repairs;

installs, maintains and repairs hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, mechanical and electrical systems on all production equipment and have the ability to work independently in the performance of standard maintenance and repairs. Tech III will also need to know pneumatics and welding fabrications. Ability to work on compactors, lifts, and Baler application.

Essential Functions
  • Investigates and diagnoses problems and performs highly diversified repairs on various mechanical heating/cooling and ventilation systems for the purpose of ensuring a comfortable work environment.
  • Provides emergency/unscheduled repairs of systems and performs scheduled preventative maintenance on various cooling/heating unit systems.
  • Perform repairs on production machines and/or equipment when a malfunction has been detected. May discuss machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problems and repair the machine.
  • Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment
  • Perform machine installations/moves and building maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Monitors and inspects heating and cooling systems to ensure continued proper operation.
  • Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Estimates the cost of repairs. Repairs parts, or locates, picks up, and installs parts as needed.
  • Checks belts, filters, clean units, and runs diagnostics tests on a regular basis.
  • Assesses drain issues and performs repairs as needed.
  • Uses a variety of hand tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties.
  • Detects faulty operations, defective material, and reports those and any unusual situations to the Facilities Manager.
  • Determines the amount of airflow required to keep carbon dioxide at a safe level; ensures this level is maintained.
  • Maintains vehicle, tools, and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition.
  • Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas.
  • Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures, as well as legal requirements, at all times.
  • Regular, reliable attendance, as defined in Goodwill’s attendance policy.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Required Skills

Education:

  • A high school diploma/GED is required, and completion of a craft apprenticeship (Electrical, Mechanical, and/or HVAC).

Experience:

  • At least four years’ experience in facility maintenance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have an understanding of HVAC.
  • Must have general knowledge of light building repair/maintenance.
  • Must be customer service oriented.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions as given.
  • Must be self-motivated to work independently toward agreed-upon goals and objectives.
  • Must possess written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to meet or exceed the company’s attendance standards.
  • Ability to use common tools.
  • Must have own transportation and ability to transport self to all properties and locations of operation, including other businesses.
  • Relate well with clients, employees, merchants, and property owners.
Certifications and Licenses
  • Universal EPA Certificate required.
  • HVAV Certification desired.
  • Valid State of Tennessee Driver’s License.
Preferred Education / Experience / Knowledge & Skills / Certifications & License
  • Formal education in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance is preferred.
