Job Summary
Cetechs is seeking a skilled Air Conditioning Equipment Operator to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and modify complex HVAC and refrigeration systems at a journeyman level.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge, hands-on experience, and a Universal EPA Refrigerant Certification.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperate, maintain, service, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and modify HVAC and refrigeration systems.
Support HVAC systems across 5 buildings totaling approximately 246,000 square feet.
Maintain and monitor systems including:
Centralized multi-zone systems
6 centrifugal chillers (approx. 380 tons each)
3 cooling towers
Screw-type systems
74 centrifugal pumps
70 air handling units
8 complex air conditioning systems serving critical medical equipment
Analyze cooling loads to ensure comfort conditions while minimizing electrical demand and energy consumption.
Maintain temperature within ±1 degree, control humidity, and maintain required positive or negative air pressure.
Diagnose system malfunctions and perform emergency repairs when written procedures are unavailable.
Monitor alarms, reset systems when conditions normalize, or repair equipment as needed.
Maintain detailed knowledge of building zones and equipment to respond to smoke, fire, or emergency conditions.
Start or stop supply and exhaust fans as required during emergencies.
Respond to fire alarms and assist fire department personnel.
Work safely in hazardous environments, following all safety and compliance standards.
Universal EPA Refrigerant Certification (required at time of application; copy must be submitted).
Demonstrated training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform HVAC duties at the journeyman level.
Strong working knowledge of air conditioning, refrigeration, and auxiliary equipment.
Ability to interpret technical instructions, specifications, and operational procedures.
Experience using measuring instruments and operating complex equipment and machinery.
Manual dexterity and strong safety awareness.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Frequently works in confined spaces around boilers and support equipment.
Performs moderate to strenuous physical activity, including prolonged walking, standing, climbing, bending, and crouching.
Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Work performed from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms (up to 30 feet high).
Requires crawling through small openings (as small as 12” x 16”).
Exposure to hazardous conditions such as high voltage, steam, gases, vibration, and high noise levels.
Must be in good physical condition to safely perform job duties.
