Fleet Services By Cox Automotive is hiring a Mobile Diesel and Trailer Technician Level II. The Mobile Diesel and Trailer Technician Level II is responsible for licensed DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under supervision and continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills.
A successful Diesel Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high level performance metrics.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow-up repairs on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment including Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment (Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Air conditioning systems, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.).
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges. Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks with effective prioritization of work and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, Diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
- Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using company-issued iOS device and TRAIT application; upload photos as required.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work with a high degree of independence and manage daily schedule; maintain productivity within standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Maintain the company-issued service truck and conduct safety checks and daily pre-/post-trip inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ related experience. An alternative combination could include any level degree/certification beyond HS or 5 years’ related experience.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
- Must meet Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). requirements; able to complete and pass a DOT pre-employment background screening and DOT physical. A valid DOT medical card may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical if valid for more than four months; otherwise a DOT physical is required.
- At least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority regulations.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain/maintain Driver Qualification File.
