Overview
The Security Guard patrols and monitors assigned areas to protect library patrons, employees, buildings, and property. Property guards will not carry weapons or firearms. Also performs related duties as required.
Responsibilities- Patrols library property on foot or with a vehicle.
- Maintains order and calls for police assistance when needed.
- Enforces Library Rules of Conduct.
- Monitors and operates various security devices/systems.
- Prepares written and oral reports as needed.
- Gives direction and provides other information to employees and the public.
- Rotates being on call for after-hours alarm calls.
- Acts as key responder for emergency after hour calls.
- May file arrest warrants on behalf of the library and appear in court as a witness.
- May lead and coordinate the work of contract security officers.
Education & Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent. Must obtain State Certification for Unarmed Guards within the first 6 months of employment.
Required Licenses: Valid Driver's License.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience , Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities- Experience controlling the admittance of persons or vehicles on private or public property
- Experience operating safety/security equipment, automobile, computer and general office equipment
- Experience monitoring and patrolling a secure area
- Knowledge of safety/conduct rules and regulations
- Bilingual language skills
