Job Summary:

The Museum Store Associate at The Hermitage is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service to visitors, facilitating merchandise purchases, providing directions, and sharing general information about The Hermitage. This role ensures a welcoming and professional environment while contributing to the smooth operation of the museum store.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Deliver outstanding customer service to enhance the visitor experience.
  • Respond to visitor inquiries with accuracy and professionalism.
  • Process sales transactions, prepare bank deposits, and balance the cash register daily.
  • Assist in receiving, unpacking, stocking, and pricing merchandise.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing store environment.
  • Engage visitors and staff in a friendly, informative, and professional manner.
  • Ensure the safety of staff, visitors, and merchandise through vigilant oversight.
  • Assist with visual merchandising to create attractive product displays.
  • Stay informed about museum exhibits, events, and programs, to provide accurate information.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support museum operations.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Proficient in cash handling, point-of-sale systems, and basic calculations.
  • Ability to engage effectively with a diverse audience.
  • Basic computer literacy for inventory and reporting tasks.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
  • At least one year of customer service experience is preferred, ideally in a retail or hospitality setting.
  • Familiarity with museums, or cultural institutions is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stoop, bend. lift and walk as part of daily tasks.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to access various departments and areas of the museum.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods during shifts.
  • Work is primarily performed in a retail store environment within the museum.
  • May require working weekends, holidays, or special events as needed.
  • Fast-paced setting with frequent visitor interactions.
