JOB SUMMARY: The Quality Manager will focus on leading the quality team, ensuring consistent supply of quality products to the marketplace, developing and maintaining quality systems, and driving compliance with customer specifications and needs.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Promote and support highest level of safety, both personally and with others, throughout daily activities.
- Process/Product Quality
- Monitor QC lab testing results and address testing discrepancies.
- Ensure updating of inspection and control charting requirements for each product.
- Develop additional opportunities for improvement.
- Address customer complaints via the Team Track and QIR systems.
- Coordinate quality improvement and monitoring programs with the customers for the plant.
- Report incoming raw material problems.
- Lead the Quality Circle Meetings.
- Responsible for the daily Quality Auditing system for the Site, including the Quality Audit database.
- Maintain the Quality Index metric.
- MQS (Material Quality Standards)
- Key Element owner responsible for elements 12, 17, and 18.
- Provides direction and support to other Key Element Owners.
- Provide Site representation during internal and external MQS Audits.
- Responsible for developing and communicating the official Site response to the auditors.
- Participate in audits of other Magnera locations, a minimum of one per year.
- Process/Product Development
- Work closely with R&D, production, and process personnel during trial work at the plant.
- Communicate requirements to plant personnel ensuring that all needed special instructions (including set-up, sampling, testing, charting, and labeling) are properly documented.
- Assist in developing product specifications.
- Work with Technical Operations, Plant Engineering and Production to develop and justify needed equipment improvements to meet ongoing quality and productivity improvement goals and capabilities for new product requirements.
- Specification Development
- Write and review specifications as necessary.
- Analyze physical property histograms and data trends and determine specification limits based on equipment capabilities and customer requirements.
- Gain customer agreement on product specifications.
- Verify correlation between Magnera and customer test methods and standard references.
- Customer Service
- Conduct investigations of quality errors and near misses and partner with other leadership on any corrective actions that need to be taken
- Work with the Magnera Sales and Marketing Group to service customers as required including occasional visits to Customer facilities.
- Involvement includes discussions of capability (within proprietary limits), complaints, Magnera Customer Teams, and other similar items.
- Communicate interactions to Plant Manager(s)/Site Director.
- This position will interface with the plant workforce and management team as well as corporate personnel. Externally, this position will deal with outside vendors.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Education:
Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in chemical engineering, polymer science, chemistry and statistical tools, or equivalent experience. - Experience:
A minimum of 5 to 7 years relevant experience. Supervisory experience required. - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Knowledge of and skills in the use of office machines (computer and copier) and business procedures. Strong computer aptitude and experience. Various lab equipment.
- Job functions will be performed in and around production, warehouse and office areas.
- Work is performed in an office environment and on the manufacturing floor with frequent contact with others. Requires sitting and frequent bending, stooping and stretching, manual dexterity, the ability to distinguish letters, occasional lifting, walking, standing and the use of office equipment. Facility is 24/7, which may dictate the need to be present on off shifts.
