Position

Assistant Athletic Trainer at Belmont University.

Hours

37.5 hours per week.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of student‑athletes at Belmont University. Provide coverage for practices and athletic events for assigned sports and team.

Essential Functions
  • Oversee all aspects of the physical care of Belmont student‑athletes on assigned team(s). Act as a liaison between physicians, specialists, school, coaches, athletes and their parents under the direction of a physician and only treat within their scope of expertise; work with physicians for direction of care, when needed.
  • Assist Director of Sports Medicine with the coverage of daily practices, treatments and preventative care; athletic training services for all athletic contests (home and away) and on the holistic wellbeing of Belmont's student athletes (i.e. Mental Health, nutrition, etc.)
  • Assist the Director of Sports Medicine in the management of the athletic training rooms, including but not limited to: ordering of equipment and supplies, inventory and maintenance of medical devices used with patient care (e‑stim/US, Normatec); maintain a clean work environment; fitting and ordering of protective equipment, including pads, braces, etc.
  • Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks and abiding by NCAA Guidelines for the safe participation in sports. Certify that all critical incident management tools are up to date, reviewed and followed.
  • Foster an environment of collaboration by working closely with the Elite Sports Medicine team and Belmont coaches, staff, campus partners and student‑athletes.
  • Ensure accurate records are filed and proper documentation of injuries, medical history, insurance coverage, etc. Including but not limited to: filing of primary and secondary insurance, timely injury reporting into appropriate databases, NCAA pre‑participation and sports physicals, etc.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and basic databases and software.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations regarding athletics.
  • Knowledge in exercise physiology, biomechanics, nutrition, and therapeutic exercise.
  • Experience working in a fast‑paced environment and the ability to respond to high‑pressure situations. Ability to thrive in an environment of hard work.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Required Education

Bachelor’s and master’s degree required. Other requirements include: certification as an Athletic Trainer through NATA BOC, certification in CPR and Emergency Cardiac Care, and licensure as an Athletic Trainer through the State of Tennessee.

Required Experience

1–3 years required, 4–6 years preferred experience in athletic training, kinesiology, and/or exercise science.

The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University.
