Pediatric Cleft and Craniofacial; Outpatient – Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is located in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Division of Pediatric Plastic Surgery is seeking a dynamic, highly competent & compassionate team player, a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to work in collaboration with plastic surgery faculty at Monroe Carell Jr Children’s Hospital  NP/PA will provide healthcare in ambulatory and acute care settings with a focus on children with the full spectrum of pediatric plastic surgery related conditions, which may include but are not limited to congenital conditions related to the extremities, face and skull, as well as wounds, nevi, cysts, soft tissue and skeletal trauma.

The NP/PA will primarily have an outpatient/clinic role but will also liaise closely with the inpatient pediatric plastic surgery team and multiple multidisciplinary teams that plastic surgery participates in.

Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm.

The role spans outpatient clinic, administrative domains and occasional inpatient cross‑coverage. Outpatient role (at MCJCHV) will include both concomitant clinic visits with the surgeons at their discretion and substantial independent clinic for new and returning patients. The role may also involve opportunities for outreach clinics in Murfreesboro, Cookeville, Madison, Alabama and Jackson.

• Obtains and documents a health history; performs and documents a complete, system‑focused, or symptom‑specific physical examination, assessment, and plan of care.
• Hands‑on responsibilities include dressings changes and/or removals, splint and suture removals (after training as needed).
• Provides healthcare services for primary, acute and complex care of patients and manages patient’s overall care, identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses.
• Communicates with families and referring providers to ensure continuity of care across clinical settings.
• Communicates and coordinates with other providers in any setting to ensure outpatient follow‑up and continuity.
• Orders, performs, interprets and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, diagnostic information and procedures where indicated.
• Forms differential diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions.
• Prescribes therapeutic interventions (pharmacologic, non‑pharmacologic, and surgical) needed to achieve expected outcomes.
• Utilizes evidence‑based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care.
• Initiates appropriate referrals and consultations.
• Provides specialty‑specific consultation services upon request and within scope of practice.
• Facilitates the patient’s transition between and within health care settings, such as admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
