• Uses critical thinking skills to assess facts and make rational decisions quickly and effectively when working with patients who have heart complications.
• Participates as part of an interdisciplinary care team in the treatment of cardiac–vascular conditions such as heart failure, heart valve disorders, high blood pressure, vascular disorders, heart attack and arrhythmia.
• Interprets data and responds to urgent situations in a way that optimizes patient care and produces positive outcomes.
• Uses analytical skills to review test results, draw conclusions, and advise on treatment plans.
• Performs and interprets various cardiac and vascular lab tests.
• Works closely with cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, electrophysiologists, and other physicians in the care and treatment of the full range of cardiovascular conditions.
• Participates in clinical trials and clinical research programs as per clinic needs.
• Documents legible and concise entries in the medical record and maintains complete medical history for each patient.
• Performs appropriate patient preparation for each visit and/or procedure and medication reconciliation on each visit.
• Educates patients on cardiovascular diseases, including preventive measures, and helps diagnose and treat cardiovascular events.
• Assists in performing diagnostic tests such as ECGs/EKGs and initiates Holter and Event monitors.
• Interacts with patients and their families pre- and post-treatment; monitors vitals and cardiovascular readings; interprets lab results.
• Maintains knowledge of ACC/AHA guidelines related to heart failure and makes critical decisions concerning emergency medical procedures as appropriate.
• Maintains orderly, efficient, and timely flow of patients; greets patients and prepares them for physician examination; provides general nursing care as needed.
• Screens patients for information; instructs on collection of samples and tests; arranges for patient testing and admissions.
• Checks rooms for supplies; responds to and refers incoming calls; instructs patients and families on medications and treatment instructions.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to safety and infection control policies; uses universal precautions.
• Projects a positive image of the facility and supports effective team functioning; complies with Code of Conduct and Mission and Value statements.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited school of registered nursing is required.
• EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years registered nurse cardiac–vascular experience in an acute care or cardiology clinic setting required.
• CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: BLS required upon hire; ACLS required within 60 days of hire; current unrestricted RN license per state regulations.
• Cardiac Medicine Certification (CMC) through AACN or Cardiac Vascular Nursing Certification (CV-BC) through ANCC preferred.
