Job Summary:

The Cardiology Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team. The NP/PA provides healthcare in cardiac ambulatory specialty care and cardiac acute care health care settings. The NP/PA provides comprehensive cardiology care ranging from medical to surgical cardiac conditions. The NP/PA has didactic education, clinical competency and national certification in identified area of clinical practice.

The NP/PA demonstrates medical knowledge, clinical judgment, technical competence, professionalism, interpersonal communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation. The NP/PA has an advanced knowledge of nursing theory and application.

Our Pediatric Cardiology Teams at VUMC are growing! We are looking for Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants to join our Pediatric Cardiology, Cardiac ICU, Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Electrophysiology Teams.

Position Hours
  • Night Shift
  • 3 12 Hour Shifts Per Week
  • Rotating Weekends and Holidays
Department Summary

The Pediatric Inpatient Cardiology Service is part of comprehensive pediatric surgical and medical congenital heart institute at Monroe Carell Children’s Hospital. The PHI performs around 500 cases per year. The APP will join a multi-disciplinary team consisting of physicians, APPs, and other disciplines that support the overall mission of comprehensive care for children with congenital heart disease.

The Pediatric Inpatient Cardiology Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) provides healthcare for inpatient pediatric cardiology patients. The pediatric inpatient cardiology NP/PA must have didactic education, clinical competency and national certification in pediatric clinical practice. The NP/PA demonstrates medical knowledge, clinical judgment, technical competence, professionalism, interpersonal communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation.

The NP/PA works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team (pediatric cardiology hospitalists, cardiologists and other NPs/PAs) on the inpatient pediatric cardiology services.

$15,000 Sign On Bonus for Candidates with 1 or More Years of Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Experience

* The sign-on bonus is not applicable to current VUMC staff or former staff who have worked for VUMC in the past twelve months. The sign-on bonus is only available for full-time positions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtains and documents a health history; performs and documents complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific physical examination, assessment and plan of care.
  • In collaboration, provides healthcare services for primary, acute and complex care of patients and manages patient's overall care, identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses.
  • Orders, performs, interprets and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
