The mission of the Cumberland River Compact is to enhance the health and enjoyment of the
Cumberland River and its tributaries through action, education, and collaboration. The Four Rivers
Basin Coordinator will advance this mission by engaging with local communities, watershed
organizations, regulatory agencies, businesses, and residents to improve water quality and
reduce nonpoint source pollution in the Four Rivers Basin of Western Kentucky and Tennessee.
This will be accomplished through on-the-ground projects that have a direct impact on water
quality, as well as through education and outreach efforts aimed at fostering long-term behavioral
change.
This role is part of the Compact’s Working Lands Division and reports directly to the Working
Lands Division Manager. This role is funded by a Kentucky 319(h) Nonpoint Source Grant and
supports both the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet Division of Water and the
Cumberland River Compact.
Responsibilities- Familiarity with Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) communities
- Knowledgeable about NRCS or other Best Management Practices (BMPs)
- Familiarity with 319 Watershed Based Plans
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in natural resource management, environmental science, agricultural sciences, or related field
- Residency within the Four Rivers Basin of Kentucky
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and remotely
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, Zoom, Microsoft Office, and Slack
- Willingness to travel during 60% of work hours throughout the Four Rivers Basin and to the Cumberland River Compact office in Nashville, TN (must have a reliable personal vehicle; mileage to project sites will be reimbursed)
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain professional, friendly relationships across diverse communities and partnerships
- Results-oriented, with a focus on achieving goals outlined in the Kentucky Nonpoint Source Management Plan
- Comfortable with science communication and public speaking
Details and benefits:
- Hourly and non-exempt position; pay rate is $20/hour
- Up to 30 hours of work per week, with occasional weekend commitments
- Hybrid remote/in office (one day a week required at the Compact’s Nashville office)
