- In partnership with the CMP Department Head and program areas, this role leads the development and implementation of annual strategic marketing plans that promote The United Methodist Church to members, leaders, and seekers by highlighting programs, content, and resources produced by United Methodist Communications and other denominational entities. The position ensures all marketing efforts are aligned with the strategic priorities of the UMC, United Methodist Communications, and agency partners, and incorporates a mix of traditional and digital, inbound, and outbound strategies.
The role also strategically promotes United Methodist Communications to church leaders, reinforcing UMCom’s value, services, and expertise in support of the UMC’s mission, with a focus on equipping local churches to strengthen their own marketing efforts and on responsibly growing UMCom’s databases. This position works closely with internal teams—including Creative, CX, PR, web, and social—to deliver integrated, innovative campaigns across multiple media channels, and collaborates with external partners and vendors as needed to extend reach and effectiveness. - Supervises, manages, and develops direct reports through mentoring and fulfills all HR-related responsibilities. Manages relationships with internal teams and external clients, building upon and strengthening existing partnerships.
- Develops measurement strategy and implements return-on-investment reporting system. Analyzes appropriate data to measure effectiveness of marketing programs and activities. Uses the analysis to improve marketing campaigns.
- Develops and oversees the team’s budget, ensuring the best use of resources while adhering to the assigned budget.
- Stays abreast of changes and trends in the marketing industry. Proactively looks for new ideas and integrates best practices to promote the agency’s programs, resources, and services.
- Effectively develops and executes strategic marketing plans to promote agency and client programs and products.
- Manages team and other relationships within and outside the agency.
- Develops measurement strategy and implements return-on-investment. Manages team budget.
Education:
minimum level of formal education required:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing/communications or a related field; or equivalent experience.
This position requires in-depth knowledge of The United Methodist Church and experience developing and implementing integrated marketing strategies across digital, social, and traditional channels. Candidates must demonstrate strong expertise in SEO, SEM, email marketing, mobile marketing, and other emerging media, along with advanced proficiency in Google Analytics and campaign tracking. The ideal candidate will have a background in marketing, communications, and advertising, with experience managing complex projects and collaborating across teams.
Familiarity with marketing automation tools - particularly Salesforce - as well as experience supporting conferences, conventions, and/or trade shows is preferred. Strong communication and project management skills are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required, along with the ability to communicate complex information effectively to diverse audiences. Knowledge of and experience within the church or nonprofit sector is required. Some domestic travel is required, with the possibility of occasional international travel.
7 years in marketing and advertising; with 2 years in digital marketing experience required.
