JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Workers' Compensation Manager oversees and administers the workers' compensation program for a national live entertainment labor company supporting both union and non-union work forces. This role ensures compliant, consistent, and cost-effective claim management across multiple states, collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), and client environments. The Manager partners closely with Operations, Safety, Payroll, Legal, and union representatives while maintaining neutrality, regulatory integrity, and appropriate separation of duties.
Key Responsibilities Union & Non-Union Claims Administration- Manage the full life cycle of workers' compensation claims for union-represented and non-union employees, from injury intake through claim closure.
- Serve as the primary liaison with insurance carriers, TPAs, brokers, legal counsel, and-when appropriate-union business agents or stewards, ensuring consistent communication and documentation.
- Ensure claims handling aligns with contractual requirements while remaining compliant with applicable state workers' compensation laws.
- Oversee compliance with multi-state workers' compensation regulations and other state requirements for touring crews and multi-jurisdictional work.
- Manage claims arising from live events, load-ins/load-outs, rigging, staging, forklifts, truss builds, and touring operations.
- Ensure accurate injury reporting and jurisdictional filings across multiple EINs, clients, and venues.
- Design and administer return-to-work and modified duty programs applicable to both union and non-union roles, consistent with CBAs and operational realities.
- Coordinate with Operations, Safety, and HR to identify appropriate transitional work assignments without violating contract language or safety requirements.
- Monitor medical restrictions, lost-time claims, and ADA considerations in partnership with HR and Legal.
- Act as a neutral, knowledgeable partner in workers' compensation matters involving union-represented employees.
- Participate in labor-management discussions related to injury trends, safety concerns, and claim resolution, as appropriate.
- Support grievance avoidance by ensuring consistent, well-documented, and contract-compliant claim practices.
- Analyze loss runs, claim frequency, severity, and cost drivers across union and non-union populations.
- Partner with Safety leadership to identify systemic risks and recommend targeted prevention strategies specific to live entertainment labor.
- Support experience modification factor (EMR) management and long-term risk reduction initiatives.
- Train supervisors, crew leads, and managers—both union and non-union—on injury reporting procedures, documentation standards, and post-incident expectations.
- Provide guidance on how workers' compensation intersects with CBAs, safety rules, and company policies.
- Prepare regular reports and dashboards for leadership on claim volume, costs, lost-time days, and trends by union/non-union status, market, tour, or client.
