SUE Technician

Pay: $20.00/hr – $30.00/hr (based on experience, to be discussed in interview)

Responsibilities
  • Perform subsurface utility investigations using ground‑penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetic locators, and vacuum excavation techniques.
  • Accurately locate and identify underground utilities, such as gas, electric, water, and telecommunications lines.
  • Prepare and interpret field sketches, utility drawings, and as‑built data.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other field staff to ensure accurate reporting and safe excavation practices.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety protocols and industry standards.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports, deliverables, and field notes.
  • Maintain equipment and vehicles in a clean and functional condition.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 1–2 years of experience in SUE, utility locating, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with SUE methods, including QL‑B, QL‑C, QLD, and QL‑A.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction and utility plans.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions and travel to job sites as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Must successfully pass a pre‑employment drug screening and background check.
Physical Requirements
  • Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments.
  • Ability to carry required instruments and equipment.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other applicable federal, state, and local standards, including meeting productivity standards.
  • Exposure to variable climate and environmental conditions, including but not limited to extreme cold and heat.
