Building Maintenance Worker

Overview

The Salvation Army
, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Building Maintenance Worker/Driver.

• Perform routine repairs and maintenance of Salvation Army buildings and equipment, including minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repair work.
• Perform routine electrical repairs, replace/add receptacles, repair light fixtures, and other miscellaneous electrical repairs.
• Repair roofs, sidings, doors, and steps, and perform maintenance and repair of Salvation Army buildings and quarters.
• Paint inside and outside of Salvation Army buildings as needed.
• Assemble and move office furniture, including chairs, desks, tables, bulletin boards, etc.
• Clean surroundings after each repair job; ensure tools are collected and surroundings are left neat and clean.
• Monitor lighting and change light bulbs when needed.
• Maintain all tools, supplies, parts, and equipment belonging to the Maintenance Department.
• Maintain and repair door locks.
• Assist in cleaning the kitchen and dining area.
• Perform other related work as required.

• Knowledge of general building and grounds maintenance practices and procedures.
• Ability to learn by on-the-job training and follow instructions.
• Ability to perform routine and minor repair and maintenance activities of buildings and grounds.
• Ability to use and maintain maintenance equipment and tools effectively and in a safe manner.
• Ability to keypunch information into a computer.
• Ability to operate various general office equipment including a telephone, computer, and printer.
• Ability to travel as needed.

High school diploma or G.E.D, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

• Valid State Driver’s License

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, communicate and write the English language.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting and strenuous, heavy work involving lifting and carrying of heavy objects.
• Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing; work requires lifting/carrying or pushing/pulling heavy materials frequently (50–100+ lbs.).
