It oversees officer certification, training requirements, and continuing education, ensuring agencies meet statutory mandates and maintain high levels of integrity and accountability.

Job Overview

The Assistant Director of the Tennessee POST Commission plays a pivotal leadership role in advancing law enforcement standards across the state. This position supports strategic planning, regulatory compliance, and operational oversight to ensure the integrity and effectiveness of officer certification and training programs. Acting as a liaison between the Commission and law enforcement agencies, the Assistant Director provides expert guidance, supervises staff, and drives continuous improvement through data-informed decision-making and process innovation.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Executive Secretary to set strategic direction and modernize law enforcement standards and training.
  • Ensure compliance with POST rules and Tennessee law through oversight of certification, training, and investigations.
  • Manage approval processes for lesson plans, instructors, and specialized schools.
  • Maintain accurate records and produce reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent the Commission in statewide forums and provide guidance to law enforcement agencies.
  • Supervise staff and drive operational improvements through technology and process optimization.
  • Minimum qualifications

    Minimum 5 years in law enforcement or regulatory oversight, with at least 2 years of supervisory capacity. Bachelors Degree (preferred) or equivalent experience in law enforcement
