Job Description & How to Apply Below

Overview

We’re seeking a Safety Innovation Laboratory Lab Manager to join the Global Safety Engineering team. This position will be located in and responsible for the development and management of the premier AWS Safety Innovation Laboratory space in Kent, Washington, as well as coordinating prototype deployments at other AWS locations in the region.

On this team you will wear many hats, work smart, and iterate quickly. We’re looking for someone who can define a vision for technical safety opportunities and then execute on that vision. Successful applicants will have a strong and technically oriented background in the management of research equipment, managing laboratory safety programs, running lab facilities/construction projects, advancing lab standards, and partnering with engineers, members of the H&S Programs team, and lab technicians.

Successful applicants will have experience defining problems, leading cross-functional teams, and communicating with a large number of stakeholders, including written and oral communications with senior leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the planning, build-out, and relocation of equipment or area within the safety lab, meeting the schedule and programmatic needs of the business.
  • Work with third-party test agencies to test and validate equipment/products to be used within AWS Data Centers.
  • Create, publicize, and enforce laboratory procedures and cleanliness/organization standards, partnering with outside consultants when necessary. Organize and set standards for lab operations with the Design for Safety laboratory space, including workflows for efficiency, compliance, and output.
  • Develop and implement test plans, trial plans, and Design of Experiments (DOE) for new equipment and processes.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration to establish and follow work instructions and test procedures.
  • Work with risk and safety partners to ensure regional laboratory safety programs are compliant, employees are trained where needed, and records are organized and filed.
  • Respond to and delegate day-to-day requests and issues in a timely and effective manner. Plan and coordinate with the Global Safety Engineering team, H&S Programs team, and hardware engineers on equipment and facility related requests.
  • Analyze and synthesize data — create reports, dashboards, and presentations to convey information across the organization.
  • Travel up to 10% may be required.
Qualifications Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related STEM field
  • Experience managing lab resources, equipment, and supplies
  • Proficient in a broad range of tools, equipment, and lab techniques
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or above in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related STEM field
  • Experience with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
  • Experience in written and verbal communication to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership
  • Proven track record of aligning stakeholders and delivering results on time
