IT Project Manager, Systems Administrator
SHR Talent is partnering with a client in Nashville, TN who is seeking a highly experienced Director of IT Operations to lead and scale a rapidly growing IT organization. The Director of IT Operations will oversee infrastructure operations, Tier III engineering, and a newly formed network operations function. The Director of IT Operations will initially lead a team of four with planned growth to 8 – 10 team members within six months.
The Director of IT Operations is a strategic and hands‑on leadership role for someone who thrives in a fast‑moving environment, understands complex technical ecosystems, has the ability to stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices, and excels at building high‑performing teams and processes.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary IT Operations team, including infrastructure engineering, Tier III escalation, and a new Network Operations Center (NOC)
- Scale the team to meet organizational growth and evolving technical needs
- Strong conceptual understanding across networking, cloud, Citrix, storage, and operations
- Oversee operational performance, process improvements, and technical excellence across all functions
- Manage budgets, operational planning, staffing, and resource allocation
- Direct the design, maintenance, and optimization of servers, storage, VMware, Microsoft cloud technologies, and related infrastructure
- Serve as a technical thought leader capable of guiding hands‑on engineers and resolving complex issues
- Ensure system reliability, performance, and scalability across on‑premise and cloud environments
- Build and manage a new NOC responsible for monitoring, alerts, proactive issue identification, and system stability
- Implement tools, metrics, and playbooks to drive visibility and automated response capabilities
- Lead the highest level of technical escalation for service desk and operations teams
- Ensure effective root cause analysis, advanced troubleshooting, and timely resolution of complex incidents
- Partner with IT leadership on operational strategy, roadmaps, and cross‑team alignment
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Drive a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of progressive leadership experience within IT Operations
- Proven success managing multi-disciplinary teams and operational budgets
- Strong technical background with hands‑on experience in infrastructure, servers, VMware, cloud technologies, and backup and recovery solutions
- Expertise with Microsoft 365 and system monitoring tools
