Job Summary

Vanderbilt Health is hiring a PRN Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to provide home health physical therapy in the Greater Nashville area. This role offers flexible weekday hours, one‑on‑one patient care, and the opportunity to help patients regain independence in their homes.

Responsibilities
  • Provide physical therapy treatments in patients’ homes
  • Carry out individualized treatment plans created by supervising PTs
  • Promote mobility, functional independence, and home safety
  • Educate patients and caregivers on exercises and safe mobility
  • Document care accurately in EMR systems
  • Communicate with PTs, RNs, physicians, and other care team members
  • Travel throughout the assigned home health territory
Qualifications

Required

  • Active Tennessee PTA license
  • Minimum 1 year of PTA experience
  • Strong communication and patient‑care skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Valid driver’s license + reliable transportation

Preferred

  • Experience with EMR systems
  • Home health or outpatient rehab experience
  • Strong understanding of functional mobility and rehab techniques

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide treatment as specified on the written treatment plan by the supervising Physical Therapist. Demonstrates ability to:
  • Administer various therapeutic modalities according to departmental protocols and guidelines. These include ultrasound, whirlpool, T.E.N.S., biofeedback, hot/cold packs, paraffin baths, electric stimulation, weights, traction, massage and other as indicated.
  • Supervise patients in the completion of their exercise and training program to maximize their functional independence.
  • Progress the patient in treatment as indicated by the patient’s progress in therapy and the treatment plan.
  • Respect the patient’s right to privacy and confidentiality.
  • Provide education to patient, family, health care team and community.
  • Assist the physical therapist in planning for the discharge needs of the patient.
  • Adapt communication to needs/level of understanding of audience.
  • Communicate treatment plan, use of intervention strategies and discharge needs to patient, family and health care team.
  • Supervise PTA students.
