Job Summary

Supports delivery of patient care by providing clerical and receptionist services to patients, families, visitors, staff, physicians, departments that support patient care, and all other customers of a Patient Care Unit with regular guidance. Facilitates efficient workflow, supports appropriate use of technology, and fosters effective communication.

About the Department

Our Trauma ICU unit specializes in caring for Level I Trauma patients from the Middle Tennessee area, covering over a 66,000 square mile area. Our patient focus is on providing quality care to multisystem acute and critical care patients involving traumatic injuries and preparing them for their return back into society. We strive for the best and set high standards for the care we provide.

A typical shift for our care partners includes working with a dedicated team to care for patients with head, neck, spinal cord, thoracic, abdominal, pelvic, and a variety of orthopedic injuries. The Vanderbilt Trauma staff members are excellent in teamwork, reacting quickly to situations, thinking critically, and managing patients from admission to discharge.

Your Schedule
  • Part-Time Night Shift – 6:45 pm – 7:15 am

  • Rotation:
    Wednesday Night one week, Monday and Tuesday Nights the following week, then repeat.

  • All Employees (Night shift & PRN included) are required to attend hospital orientation during regular daytime hours during the first week of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of previous administrative experience in a hospital setting

  • Flexible availability

  • Professionalism and reliability

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • High emotional intelligence

Key Responsibilities
  • Processes orders according to guidelines, follows computer downtime procedures.

  • Enters and updates information in computer system to assure current information and retrieves data accurately.

  • Maintains unit log according to guidelines, makes follow up appointments, and performs discharge related clerical tasks.

  • Responds to patient call system and patient requests providing clear, current information to families, visitors and staff.

  • Uses telephone, patient call system, beeper/paging system, fax/copy machine, scanning, unit specific monitoring devices, pneumatic tube system and to facilitate flow of communication, equipment and supplies.

  • Orders, maintains and uses supplies in a cost effective manner.
