• Demonstrate advanced clinical skills and the ability to assess patients to determine appropriate level of care.
• Identify cultural considerations, gender identity and preferred language for patients and family.
• Perform advanced practice assessments and maintain timely documentation in compliance with requirements.
• Assess environment and patient’s safety status and respond to actual and potential safety issues or changes in the patient’s condition.
• Identify risk factors, screening criteria and interventions for patients with special precautions (e.g., suicide, homicide, falls, elopement).
• Recognize and act upon unexpected assessment findings.
• Ensure a safe structured milieu with evidence‑based treatment modalities/resources.
• Maintain active and timely communication with patients, families, multidisciplinary team and continuum of care providers.
• Provide education and guidance regarding state commitment processes, abuse reporting requirements, duty to warn and guardianship processes.
• Coordinate and provide guidance on complex discharge planning needs and readiness for discharge with the multidisciplinary team.
• Develop and maintain a community resource guide including access to public assistance/alternatives.
• Facilitate and participate in community education, activities and support groups (as appropriate to scope).
• Apply appropriate age/developmental stage specific standards, policies and procedures, and guidelines in assessing and treating patients to ensure patient safety.
• Maintain professionalism and use good communication skills in interacting with peers, staff, patients, families and in resolving conflicts.
• Maintain clear professional boundaries with peers, patients and families.
• Serve as an educational resource to patients, families, interdisciplinary team members, payer representatives and other parties regarding behavioral services.
• Review, coach and assist with training of new staff/interns as assigned within approved practice and program guidelines.

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• Master’s degree.
